Educating Agnes

A delightful adaptation of Moliere's "L'Ecole des Femmes" ("School for Wives") by leading Scottish poet and playwright Liz Lochhead.

Middle-aged Arnolphe believes that all wives cheat on their husbands. He has kept his young ward, Agnes, in a convent for years, sheltered from the ways of the world. He intends marrying her when she comes of age, believing that her innocence and ignorance will protect him from cuckoldry.

While away on a business trip, he leaves Agnes in the care of two daft servants, with strict instructions for her to be kept in isolation. Then Agnes meets young Horace and falls in love ...

This 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe production was directed by Mike Paton.
